Fudge bubbling on the stove, gingerbread dough resting, and polka cones neatly packed.

You’ll find us in the courtyard, right next to Nyborg House (the big red one).

Today, we brought out the advent calendar we first made two years ago.

I love how it’s become part of our Christmas traditions. The week before the first Sunday of Advent, the tree goes up and is wrapped in fairy lights. The little notes I wrote on red paper cards are carefully tucked into boxes and hung among the branches, waiting to be opened each morning.

The activities I chose are simple — things we’d do anyway, depending on both mine and K’s workdays. No rush, no fuss.

Every morning, Sienna opens a box and uncovers the day’s prompt. Afterwards, the box and its note are stored away in a shoebox we’ve wrapped in gift paper — waiting quietly for next year to come around again.

In the first photo, you can see this year’s plan, mostly for my own record.

Two recent finds — a star-shaped glass candle holder that catches the light just so, and a wooden stjärngosse [star singer], quietly echoing the traditions of old Lucia processions, with his pointy hat and painted blue buttons.

One month till Christmas Eve! Let time slow, even just for a little while.
